Located in the Namib Desert and more specifically the Namib-Naukluft Park, Sossusvlei is a salt and clay pan surrounded by red dunes.

Although the origin of the name "Sossusvlei" which translates to "Dead-End Marsh" can sound somewhat sinister, the area is one of the most beautiful and captivating in Namibia.

In order to reach Sossusvlei one must travel through the Sesriem Gate, located in the Sesriem Canyon, which is a worthy destination in itself. Sossusvlei is among the most popular tourist destinations in the country and with good reason. With its high red dunes (eg. Big Daddy which is measured at about 325m in height), Deadvlei, Hiddenvlei and the petrified dunes, the Sossusvlei area has no shortage in breathtaking sights.

The Sossusvlei Lodge is located at the entrance gate to the Sesriem Canyon and offers a wide variety of exciting activities including hot-air ballooning, quad-biking, helicopter flights and nature walks to name a few.
